Community Grants 2017-2018


In 2018, Chesapeake Reading Council will award up to $1,500.00 to deserving schools to help fund literacy projects!  The ongoing budget crisis has created a shortage of supplies in classrooms across the country.   Teachers are full of brilliant ideas, but they often lack the necessary funds to see them through.  Take advantage of this opportunity and see some of your ideas come to life!

Here are a few suggestions:

Online books are a great way to get students reading with high-interest topics that can be differentiated for students reading at any level.

Classroom libraries are essential at any grade level, and these cozy spots draw readers in.  What is your library missing?

Books are fantastic, but good educators know that students need exposure to various text.  Do you have the necessary resources to expand their understanding of text?

Many teachers use games and activities to enhance student learning.  Magnetic letters, flash cards, listening centers, and other items can be used independently or in small groups.  Dream big and think outside of the box!!!  

Writing is a huge piece of literacy, and we can't deny how important it is!  What kind of ideas do you have for improving your students' writing?
